After careful consideration from the family of Ama

After careful consideration from the family of Amarr Murphy-Paine, the recipient of the award named in his honor has been given to Sophia Judd of the 2025 varsity soccer team. Coaches of all Garfield athletic teams were asked to send in a nominee they believed embodied Garfield spirit, passion, and commitment both in and out of their sport. Her coach wrote: “Sophia wasn’t able to be medically cleared to fully participate this season, she faced individual set backs and struggles during her rehab, but through out her commitment, enthusiasm and dedication to the team was unmatched. She attended every practice and every game she was able to, always showing up with the biggest smile, serving as a source of inspiration and cheering on the team. The first practice she was able to attend, as soon as they saw her the whole team stopped and rushed to over to hug her and welcome her back, which speaks volumes to her character and impact on her teammates. Her passion for the season and her teammates was infectious, she delivered great halftime pump speeches, showed great strength maintain her spirt in spit of all she had to overcome, and showed everyone what it means to have Dawg mentality!!”This award is given in honor of Amarr Murphy-Paine, a dedicated, loving, and loved member of the Garfield community and football team. We are determined to keep his legacy alive through this award and other actions in and around the school community. Thank you Sophia for being a shining star in the Garfield community!

If you enjoy free live-streams of games, we need your help! Next year our streaming equipment will be leaving with one of our seniors. We are hoping to use the money from the bake sale to buy a new stream setup! Please consider stopping by our bake sale this Wednesday during both lunched by the portable!

UPDATED TIMES This June 6th, the one-year annive

UPDATED TIMES This June 6th, the one-year anniversary of Amarr’s death, please participate in this day of major significance. There will be a student walkout at 12:30pm, the time Amarr was shot. This will be during lunch, so please meet at the front steps of the school for a moment of silence along with speeches from Amarr’s father, Arron, and from any other student who wishes to speak on the topic. At 2:10, there will be a school field day that will include food trucks, games, face paint, and a DJ along with other activities. At 3:40, there will be a community celebration of life, where friends, family, alumni, and those in the community are welcome to come and pay respects and celebrate the life of Amarr. There will also be a blood drive going on in the gym all day. Please consider donating blood, it could save a life. June 6th 2024 was a major turning point in our community. We hope to see everyone participating on this day of activities and protest. If you have ever felt unsafe in the building or in the community, this is your time for your voice to be heard. We will be walking out in demand for safer school grounds and stricter gun laws as well as remembering all loved ones lost to gun violence in a PEACEFUL AND RESPECTFUL WAY. This is not an excuse for you to skip school. This is not an excuse for you to go home. This is an opportunity for you to participate in a community-wide protest for safety. Please be respectful and stay safe 💜🐶
